JRA Wins RIBA Award
JRA has won a RIBA London Regional Award for their restoration of grade II listed Great Arthur House. The prize was announced at an award ceremony on 20th May and received by the JRA team and the Project Manager from the City of London.
Great Arthur House was originally designed in 1956 by Chamberlin Powell and Bon as the iconic centrepiece of the Golden Lane Estate, one of the most influential British post-war housing developments. JRA was appointed by The City of London Corporation to design a replacement for the building’s deteriorating 1950s single-glazed curtain wall system with a matching, bespoke double-glazed façade, dramatically improving the comfort of the 120 flats for residents.
RIBA judges called the finished project “an enormously competent restoration which is a bench-mark against which the future cladding and re-invigoration of this type of postwar building will be measured.”
The project will now be judged at national level for the RIBA National Awards.
