Client: Brookfield Properties
JRA has completed the refurbishment and rebranding of 30 Fenchurch in the City of London for Brookfield Properties. The building was formerly known as Plantation Place, and designed by Arup Associates and completed in 2001.
The project included creating a striking entrance using laser cut Cor Ten screening, which is back-lit at night, to distinguish the building within the streetscape. JRA also modernised the entrance hall and reception, creating a new contemporary lounge and break out area with a coffee shop. The ground floor lift lobbies and lift cars were also refurbished, and the team designed new end of journey facilities, including changing rooms in the upper basement. JRA retrofitted the office space at level 8, and at level 14 created the new ‘Penthouse floor,’ with a landscaped roof terrace.
JRA opted to retain as much of the original fabric as possible. This was achieved by covering the existing cherry veneered panels in reception, retaining the existing raised floors on the office floor and the main suspended ceiling grid, which was re-sprayed. The result has produced a cost-effective scheme with significant savings in embodied CO2 emissions.
